Troy Herriage

William Troy Herriage, 80, died Saturday, Jan. 21 with his wife by his side at his Georgia home.

He was born in Tipton, Okla. He later came to the Oakdale area and graduated from Oakdale High School in 1950. While at OHS, he was instrumental in leading the Mustangs to three straight VOL baseball championships and was inducted into the OHS Hall of Fame. In 1989, he was honored to be inducted into the Oakdale Sports Hall of Fame.

Mr. Herriage is well-remembered for his baseball career, both at OHS and playing for the Kansas City Athletics, where he pitched against legends Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, and Ted Williams. He also played for several minor league teams, including the Boston Red Sox.

After his professional baseball career ended, he and his first wife, the late Rosemary Kochevar, and their four children spent 15 years in Carmichael while he worked at Aerojet as a design engineer and pitched for the Aerojet team. In 1973, the family moved back to Oakdale where he worked for K&M Trucking. Later, he and his second wife Eleanor enjoyed a new career as owners of a beautiful Bed and Breakfast in Sonora until they retired and moved to Atlanta, Ga. in 2006.

He also loved to fish and golf, and was a loving, devoted father and husband.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Grace Herriage of Georgia; children, Valerie (Steve) Cooper, Kelly (Mike) Musick, Kari (Bob) Anderson, Doug (Delilah) Herriage, all of Oakdale; stepchildren, Kiersten (Jeff) Casey of Georgia, Chandra (Jim) Gardner of Santa Cruz, Keith (Erika) Dahlin of Colorado; brother, Robert (Connie) Herriage of Massachusetts; 12 grandchildren of Oakdale, Idaho, and Utah; and 17 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1111 East A St., Oakdale.

Remembrances may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
