Knights Ferry News for September 2, 2009

POSTED September 1, 2009 2:30 p.m.

It’s rattlesnake number 12 for the Noe family. It was by the dog pen at night and had 12 rattles and a button. Rattlesnakes add a rattle every time they shed their skin, young snakes might shed 4 times a year, less as they age. Randy Noe had to weed whack the yard for granddaughter Aubrey Mendonca’s third birthday party so there would be no hiding places for snakes. Aubrey wanted a swim party for family and friends and Bev didn’t want to have children running around with a possibility of snakes in the grass.

At the MAC meeting Officer Daniels of the California Highway Patrol said it has been quiet, except for speeders on the highway. The Sheriff Deputy reported it has been an uneventful summer in the Ferry, thanks to the partnership with the U.S. Army Corp for the extra Deputy. Since July they have had 7 verbal disturbances, 2-misdemeanor vandalism, 2 petty theft and 1 identity theft. Jason Faridi from the Army Corp said they have had a 36 percent increase in visitation to the park but a 50 percent drop in citations. Raul Mendez, MAC Coordinator for Stanislaus County, spoke on the up-coming election, there is one seat vacant on the MAC, and Kasandra Ingram resigned because they are moving to Oakdale. Her seat can be replaced by appointment by Supervisor O’Brien. Shavon Haskell was the only one running for her seat so she will be appointed in lieu of an election. That leaves one seat vacant (Sally Goehring is not running again). The Oakdale Rural Fire Department has a new chief to start September 1st. They are looking for new board members. There may be a possibility of brown outs at the stations because of employee layoffs. Kasandra was presented with a gift for her service on the MAC and all enjoyed cake in her honor.
