POSTED January 24, 2012 10:33 p.m.

Glad to see the rain! The plants also were happy to be watered. If there is enough snow this coming month (Feb.) the Knights Ferry 5th –8th grades can go skiing!

Don and Gayle Diltz had a close call on their way to a funeral. Don could see a car passing a line of cars and coming straight for him. He quickly swerved but it was not enough and the car hit his rear end, sending them spinning into an orchard, dumping the contents of their trunk all across the road. This happened on Highway 120 near Escalon. The driver of the other car got out and ran. The Highway Patrol said the car was a stolen one, Don and Gayle were shook up but their car was totaled.

The Oak Summit Masonic Lodge held an Installation the other evening with Randy Noe as Installing Officer. Rodney Owen was installed as Master. Bev Noe was the piano player.

The first Sunday of the month is always Breakfast Sunday in the Ferry. The I.O.O.F. Lodge started serving breakfasts after the big flood of 1955 to pay for repairs. The building used to be the general mercantile store that George McCabe started in 1885. The building survived the big fire of 1895 that wiped out eight major businesses in town. George sold the business and moved to Oakdale in 1891.The Odd Fellows bought the building and rented the downstairs, using the upstairs for their meetings. The breakfasts that the Odd Fellows put on now help repair the old building.

Another date to put on your calendar is the Civil War reenactment on March 24th and 25th. The community will again serve a spaghetti dinner on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
