Cody Jess Smith, 24, died Friday, Oct. 21.
He was born in Susanville and was raised in Oakdale. He attended Oakdale schools since kindergarten and graduated from Oakdale High School in 2005.
Mr. Smith joined the Navy after graduation and served on the aircraft carrier the U.S.S. Enterprise as an Electrician Mate. While on the Enterprise he was involved in both the Iraqi and Afghanistan wars simultaneously. After the Navy he worked various jobs as he attained his Class A license and was driving commercial trucks.
He is survived by his parents, Gregory and Dawn Smith; siblings, Chelsea Smith, Chase Smith, all of Oakdale, and Jessica Smith of Los Gatos.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel.
