Oakdale High’s varsity football team followed up convincing lower level victories with a rout of host East Union on Friday for a three-game sweep of the Lancers in Valley Oak league action.

Varsity
Marcus Northcutt dashed his way past Lancer defenders and rumbled nearly 90 yards into the end zone on the opening kickoff, and Oakdale never looked back during a four-score first quarter and 50-14 dismantling of East Union.
“Oakdale is a good team and there’s no taking anything away from them tonight,” East Union head coach Willie Herrera said. “They came here ready to play and that’s what they did.”
Oakdale rallied to 388 total yards after an impressive first half stanza from junior quarterback Spencer Thomas.
While he only threw nine passes, he connected on seven of them (199 yards) and three went for first half touchdowns.
Marcus Hernandez ran 16 times for 119 yards, accounting for most of Oakdale’s 189 rushing yards. Northcutt added six carries for 43 yards and a score, and hauled in three catches for 134 yards. Two of his catches went for over 60 yards for a touchdown.
Justin Martin ran for an eight-yard touchdown and caught an 18-yard passing score from Thomas as well. Thomas Angarole gave Oakdale a nice cushion with his eight-yard score in the third quarter.
Junior Varsity
Oakdale rolled to 283 rushing yards and held East Union to 124 total yards of offense in a 21-8 victory on the road Friday.
The Lancers didn’t score until late in the fourth quarter and had trouble against the likes of Christian Acosta, who intercepted a pass and stopped East Union on a goal line stand at the one-yard line.
“Overall we played good team defense,” Oakdale coach Tim Meyer said. “Our defensive line and linebackers did well to control the line of scrimmage and our secondary made some nice plays against East Union’s spread offense.”
Hard running from Mustang ball carriers and big blocks from Oakdale linemen (including tight ends) allowed the team to put together two long drives to start each half of play.
Tanner Morgan capped both drives with short touchdown runs. Bailey Dryden broke free for a 61-yard score just before the half for a 14-0 Mustang lead.
“Overall the team effort was good,” Meyer said. “I was pleased with the improvements that the kids have made and we will continue to work to improve each day.”
Freshmen
Max Stevens scored one of his two touchdowns from 70 yards out as Oakdale rolled to a 50-6 win over East Union on Thursday. Brock Whitiang caught a 40-yard touchdown from Dylan Farquar, while Frankie Trent broke into the end zone from a yard out. Wade Branch hauled in a 60-yard touchdown pass from Charles Sheppherd in the second half as well.
“The kids just took care of business,” Oakdale coach Steve Jericoff said. “The second string did a great job holding them and everybody got into the game.”
Landon Ichord, Stevens, Whiting, Dante Martin and Michael Baskind led the Oakdale defense to a big performance. Oakdale is now 3-0 in conference play.
“We are getting better every week,” Jericoff said. “Our true test will be Manteca (3-0).”
