Evelyn Newburg, 90, died Thursday, Oct. 13 in Oakdale.
She was born Mary Evelyn Triplett in Harris, Mo. She moved to California as a child and grew up in Turlock, along with her two younger sisters, Marillyn and Betty, and younger brother Andrew.
She married Edwin Newburg in 1943 and they had a son, Edwin Jr., the following year. Their only daughter, Mary Ann, was born in 1946, and their third child, Richard, was born in 1948. In 1957, her fourth child, David, was born.
Mrs. Newburg and her family moved to Oakdale and lived here for many years while the children went to school. She returned to school and earned her B.A. from Stanislaus State, along with a teaching credential. She taught nearly 30 years for different school districts at various campus locations working with children age four years to 14 years old.
She had great love for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She also loved teaching, and especially working with Kindergarten students. She was employed as a teacher, but she spent almost her entire life teaching. She helped thousands of children, and more than a few adults, to learn, comprehend, and to appreciate the world in which we live. She also helped those students organize, edit, and express themselves to the people around them.
She is survived by her children, Edwin Jr., Mary Ann, Richard, and David; sisters, Marillyn and Betty; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ed.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel, 830 West F.
