Another month has flown by- here are some dates to put on your calendar: October 2nd is Breakfast Sunday in the Ferry and also the town yard sale. The free spaces are on the tennis court and are sure to have something for everyone! The Knights Ferry Community Club meeting is October 6th and is a dinner meeting, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the clubhouse. October 11th is the History and Museum meeting at Miller’s Hall at 9:00 a.m. October 12th is the KF School board meeting at the school at 6:00 p.m. October 19th is the Garden Club meeting (note change) at noon at the clubhouse. The making of pumpkin rolls by the Garden club is Oct. 18-20 at the clubhouse. The MAC meeting is at the clubhouse at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. The KFS Jog-a-thon is October 14th.
Michel and Gordon Griesner killed their 2nd rattler of the season last Monday. Jake the dog found it by the step and Gordon dispatched it.
At the MAC meeting the California Highway patrolman said it has been pretty quiet. Sherron McCarthy spoke for the church and asked for a variance on the handicap parking, as the slope is very steep. The MAC needs a plot plan but passed the variance. Heather Wright from the U.S. Army Corp told of the upcoming Salmon Festival. Since the MAC secretary was not in attendance, it was a very short meeting.
Jordan Lewis, granddaughter of Michel and Gordon Griesner, celebrated her 5th birthday at Kerr Park with family and friends.

The “Zero” party last Saturday was great fun. Among those celebrating a birthday ending in zero were Alice Sharp-90 years, Lee Shearer and Jim Franklin-80 years, those celebrating 70 years were Jack Gardella Jr., Dave Simons, Ken Ritts, Maureen McKibban, Don Snyder, David Smoot and Mike Macon. 60 years went to Winnie Mullins, Ronnie Smoot, Dennis Arbini, Lois Heister, Dave Azevedo, Claudia Curtis, Michael McKibban, Tim McKinsey, Bill Higgens and John Pfefferle. 50-year celebrants were Mark Muniain, Jayme Braaton, Kim Contreras, Lou Frere, Michelle Turner, Don Armario, Keith Sellers and Lynette Murphy. There were 40, 30, 20 and 10-year celebrants also. The food was great and the entertainment was by Benny’s Band (Ben Cassinetto, Lisa Frymire, Phil Frymire, Tracy Griesner and Sara Harris) played (is that the word) “Lay that Pistol Down” and “Happy Trails.” On the tennis court the Odd Fellows had Fourth Crossing playing some enjoyable music. Rumor has it that next year the “Belly Busters “will return!
For those of us in the Cal Fire Shared Responsibility Area (SRA) we have to watch Assembly Bill ABX1 24, as it calls for an annual fee of $175.00 for each dwelling, a $25 fee for each additional structure, open land without structures would be charged $1.00 per acre for the first 100 and then a declining rate not to exceed $3000.00 total. A discount is offered of $25 for properties within existing fire protection districts. Knights Ferry is in the SRA, and it goes approximately to Milton Rd, Woodward Reservoir and Lancaster Rd. Our Fire Station did not have a SRA map.
