Valley Home News for September 21, 2011

POSTED September 20, 2011 10:02 p.m.

We would like to offer a big warm Valley Home WELCOME to Steve and Viki Reeves, and their children, Cameron and Haili, who have recently moved to our community. The family formerly resided in Jamestown and we are told they are active members of the Oakdale Saddle Club. We understand that they are also involved in raising and training roping horses and ponies. We also learn in addition, that the Reeves family also competes in roping and rodeo events and we look forward to watching them in action at the Oakdale rodeo.

Just a reminder that our Valley Home School 7th & 8th grade students would like to invite you and your family members to join them at Café Bravo in Oakdale on Thursday, September 22 from 3 p.m. until closing. Enjoy an evening out and delicious Café Bravo cuisine. Café Bravo is donating a portion of the sales during that time frame to assist our students to fund their upcoming Washington DC educational trip with World Strides Tours. World Strides is providing credentialed teachers to lead this exciting trip. We are told that our students will have the opportunity to visit many of the peoples’ monuments, museums and historical sites and learn about the history of The United States of America!

We have received word from Sheri Rathbun that Valley Home School PTC members are busy preparing for the Harvest Festival, which will be held on Saturday, October 15th from 4-7 p.m. at the Pioneer Avenue campus. The members of the PTC are already busy working on plans for the fun filled event. The Harvest Festival is one of our most enjoyable events held here in Valley Home. There will be lots of fun things to do and see. The next Harvest Festival planning meeting will be Monday, September 26th at 3 p.m. and will be held at our Valley Home Community Park. Half the fun of these events is working with PTC members as they plan the event. Join the group at the September 26th meeting, enjoy the Community Park setting and join in the fun of planning and working on this popular Valley Home event.

Let’s have a big round of applause for our Kindergarten students. They have “won” the Spirit Day contest the past three Fridays. However, we have received word that our 1st and 2nd graders are offering stiff competition.

Lisa Jones sends this update on the PTC sponsored Annual Harvest Festival Scarecrow contest coming up next month. Fliers went home to all students and will be available at the Valley Home Store this week. We encourage all to participate as this is a fun event for everyone to enjoy as you stroll the streets of our area.
The rules are simple: 1. The Scarecrow MUST BE VISIBLE FROM THE STREET SIDE as the judges do not get out of the car to look and/or judge them. 2. All entry forms must be filled out and turned in to either PTC Inbox or the Valley Home Store by 10/10/11. 3. The five categories to choose from are: FAMILY, COUNTRY, TALLEST, SCARIEST and ORIGINAL, please choose one of these per family. 4. The Scarecrow must be complete by 10/11/11 as judging will be held on the 12th-14th of October.
Have fun with your project and know that we can’t wait to see what you create! If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Jones at (209) 840-3178. Thank you and Good Luck!

Patrick Rocha and his fun family of dedicated Giants fans flew to Denver, Colorado to watch the Giants play the Colorado Rockies! Once again our Valley Home fans have brought good luck to the SF Giants. Patrick’s family was thrilled to watch as the Giants won again!

Kristy Monschein has been busy this summer competing in barrel races all around California. She is an excellent horsewoman and has had wonderful success. Great job Kristy! Our Valley Home community has another rising rodeo star in Elsie Martin’s talented granddaughter, Sophia Martin. Sophia is heading toward a bright future in the great sport of rodeo.

Sometimes life can get so busy with activities that it makes it difficult for family members to get together for special occasions like birthdays. Glenn and Laura Burghardt, daughter, Kathy, her husband Glen and their son all celebrated recent birthdays with a family gathering and breakfast at The Hometown Buffet in Modesto. Joining them for the birthday celebration was Glenn and Laura’s granddaughter, Kate Burghardt.
