We have received word from Valley Home PTC president, Sherri Rathbun, that the meeting of the group on September 1st was a productive one. Mr. Trunnell our 5th/6th grade teacher reported to the club that he and the students going to Washington D.C. in June, will be having several fundraising events to reduce the cost of the trip. Currently, they are selling Mountain Mike’s Pizza coupon books.   The next event on the group’s calendar will be held at Café Bravo in Oakdale on Thursday, September 22nd from 3:00 p.m. to closing. The students will receive 20 percent of sales from the evening. Be sure to mark your calendars, plan to enjoy a delicious pizza and help our students reach their financial goal for the trip. For additional information, contact Mr. Trunnell at 613-4445 or e-mail Your support is appreciated.
The PTC has also planned several fundraising events for the 2011-2012 school year. They include the Harvest Festival in October, See’s Candy sale in December, Pancake Breakfast in January and Bunko in March. Our fundraising events support Student of the Month, School Assemblies, OHS Scholarships and additional activities for our students. The first Valley Home PTC Harvest Festival planning meeting was Tuesday at 8:30 at the Valley Home Community Park on Pioneer Avenue. This year’s Harvest Festival will be held on Saturday, October 15th from 4-7 p.m. We need volunteers to help set up, with the silent auction, to work the game booths and clean up. If you were unable to attend the meeting and wish to volunteer, please e-mail or contact Chairperson Michelle McKenzie at 505-4071.
The first sign-up meeting of the Valley Home 4-H was held this past Tuesday at the Community Park. Meetings for our 4-H Club are always held the first Tuesday of each month and begin at 7:00 p.m. Meetings are either held at the Valley Home Community Park when the weather is nice, and at the school Multi-Purpose room otherwise. Everyone is welcome to come and see what 4-H has to offer. For any questions, please call Jenna at 848-0378.
The 4-H will also be helping again this year with the school Harvest Festival “Pumpkin Contest”! They will be looking for the largest, strangest and best decorated pumpkins in the area!
The month of September ushers in three of our community member’s birthdays. Don Taro, who is busy with the school board business, turns another year younger in September. We have received word that Kate Hart will also gain another year this month. And also, our 4-H President, Jenna Heaton, will turn “Sweet Sixteen.” Happy Birthday to all from all your Valley Home friends!
Catching up on news of Jenna’s activities, she has been busy attending Jackpot Shows with her meat goats throughout the State of California, and also is enjoying playing golf for the OHS Varsity Girls Team. Jenna is also having a great time representing OHS as Mortimer the Mustang! Friends and family will help Jenna celebrate her birthday with a weekend party at Lake Don Pedro on the family houseboat!
Austin Jones, Nick Garza and Jordan McCain all spent last Friday night helping the OHS Varsity team defeat Turlock. Great job guys!
Wyatt Wucherer has been having a great time at Roseville Speedway riding his bike on the weekends. He is very talented and is excited to be a part of such a great sport!
