Labor Day Weekend Busy For Cops

POSTED September 6, 2011 10:37 p.m.

From DUIs to fights, the Labor Day holiday weekend kept Oakdale Police running from one call to the next as hot temperatures and too much alcohol translated to hot tempers.
There were seven DUIs within the city and a multitude of fights, one resulting in serious injury to a woman following a bar fight Saturday morning, Sept. 3 around 2 a.m. The victim, a 27-year-old Oakdale woman, suffered a separated shoulder and a contusion to her forehead when another woman, identified as Daniella Arellano, 24, of Modesto grabbed her by the hair and slammed her head into the pavement outside a local bar. According to police reports, the victim and friends were enjoying an evening out when Arellano kept giving the woman dirty looks all night. The victim recognized Arellano as a bartender at another location in town but otherwise didn’t know her. The victim went to leave the bar and Arellano attacked. The bouncer was able to break up the fight but Arellano managed to flee the scene before police arrived. An I&B (Investigation and Belief) was issued for Arellano’s arrest and when caught she faces possible charges of felony battery.
“It was a very busy weekend,” Sgt. Kerri Redd, of the Oakdale Police Department said. “Labor Day weekend is typically pretty busy. We have so much traffic because we have so many people coming through going to Yosemite, the lakes or going camping. The traffic was backed up for two hours from here to Sonora.”
There were plenty of domestic fights, too.
The Avoid The 12 enforcement campaign was in force and law enforcement agencies throughout the region arrested 91 people through Saturday on DUI charges as part of a summer Labor Day holiday crackdown.
Over the Labor Day weekend, a Riverbank woman required rescue services when she broke her ankle after deploying from a rope swing on the Stanislaus River and landed in less than deep enough water.
