Knights Ferry News for July 6, 2011

Lynn and Barbara Burroughs have returned from Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas where they watched their son, Rhett, graduate from General and Staff College. He is now officially Major Burroughs! Speaker for the graduation was the Joint Chief of Staff General Dempsey. Major Burroughs and his wife Justine (and baby boy to be) will be stationed in Ft. Carson, Colorado. They have some time off before reporting and will be home to visit.

Gayle Diltz walked the survivors lap in Livermore’s Relay For Life, Gayle as a cancer survivor and Don as her caregiver. Gayle’s sister worked the Relay For Life and got Gayle to participate. She really enjoyed it. Livermore had raised $196,000 as of last Saturday.

Condolences go out to Lenore Whalen, Knights Ferry Garden Club member, on the death of her husband Jack. Services are today, July 6th at 2:00 p.m. at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Don’t forget Thursday’s picnic at the pecan grove in the Knights Ferry Recreation Park. It is open to all and starts at 6:00 p.m. The Community Club will provide the hot dogs and drinks. A-M brings sides or salads and N-Z dessert or nibbles.

At the annual meeting of the McHenry Museum, Historical Preservation awards were given. The Willms home on Willms Road received the Residential Preservation Award. Accepting for the family was Shirley Willms McPhee. She spoke on the restoration and memories of growing up in the house. The house was built in 1892 and Dave Johnson of New Interiors of Manteca was able to reconstruct the outside to the original look. The next venture will be the interior. Family members attending were Shirley’s sister, Barbara Willms Barbagelata, and Bill Coats and Fay Prichard.

At the Sunday breakfast, a large group of Boy Scouts from Temecula were enjoying the good food.

Thanks go out to John Krick for the portable ramp he built for the Community Church. The handicap now have better access to the sanctuary.

Your reporter’s hubby Lee is recovering nicely from shoulder surgery.
