OID Fills Operations Manager Vacancy

POSTED June 22, 2011 12:19 a.m.
The Oakdale Irrigation District recently announced the promotion of Eric Thorburn to Water Operations Manager. Because of Thorburn’s dedication to his job and his knowledge of modern irrigation practices and system controls he was promoted to the position.
“The district is very excited about his promotion and looks forward to the continued success of the district’s Water Operations Department in enhancing OID’s customer service commitment and in meeting our future water challenges,” said OID General Manager Steve Knell.
Thorburn is a native of Stanislaus County and grew up on an almond ranch in the local area. He brings a practical knowledge of agriculture to his new job. Following graduation from Central Catholic High School, Thorburn attended the University of California, Davis and graduated in March 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
Thorburn worked for a private civil engineering firm locally before being hired by OID as an Assistant Engineer in January 2008. After successful completion of the Professional Engineers exam and receipt of his Professional Civil Engineer’s License in January 2010, Thorburn was promoted to Associate Engineer in the Engineering Department at OID. He has been instrumental in the design, construction and implementation of many water improvement and management projects, especially the “Total Channel Control” Program at OID. This is an automated canal control program currently being installed by OID.
