The wins just keep on coming for Oakdale Mixed Martial Arts and the Last Stand Fight Team.

Eighteen-year-old ‘Bad’ Brad McDonald landed the club’s latest professional victory after a three-round war with Jesse Bowen at Tachi Palace Fights 9 in Lemoore on Friday.

McDonald dominated the striking game and avoided Bowen submissions to land a split decision victory and an additional tally to the youngster’s impressive 7-1 fight career.

The contest streamed live on Sherdog.com and featured several bouts from some of MMA’s brightest young stars. McDonald was thrilled to be one of them.

“It was the most important win of my career,” McDonald said on Sunday. “That guy was one of our rivals who had been talking bad about our gym, so I proved him wrong and won the fight.”

McDonald posed a clear advantage in the first few rounds after some big kicks and strikes forced Bowen to work for takedowns and submission attempts.

McDonald avoided danger on both fronts, and landed some elbows and punches inside Bowen’s guard when he gained control on the ground in the second round.

Bowen had some brief spurts of offense in the final round, and the two exchanged strikes in a furious final 10 seconds to end the fight.

“He declared that his standup game was better than mine, but it certainly wasn’t the case,” McDonald said. “It was a pretty close fight but I knew I had it.”

The fight was at 145 pounds, which is a heavier weight than McDonald normally fights at; he will drop down to 140 for a contest in August, which will also be for Tachi Palace Fights.

Brad’s brothers, UFC rookie Michael McDonald and Oakdale MMA veteran Justin Smitely are also on the Last Stand Fight Team.
