Not much was in question for the Oakdale High track and field girls as they fought to keep their extensive wining streak alive in a Valley Oak League meet with visiting Manteca on April 7.
Oakdale athletes stretched their way to wins in nearly every event and landed a 100-18 landslide over the Buffaloes. Oakdale was challenged by the Manteca boys, but took a 71-54 win as well.
Oakdale’s junior varsity boys (66-69) and girls (76-24) also saw some sharp performances.
Both varsity teams are undefeated in VOL action this season, and both will be challenged in a meet against undefeated Sierra on May 7.
The Oakdale girls easily extended their conference winning streak to 49 straight wins after Hayley McIntyre landed a personal best toss of 103 feet, 7 inches in the discus. Jaylene Ponce went over 35 feet for the second week in a row to take the shot put event as well. Haily Macedo exploded for some terrific times in the 1600 and 3200 and is expected to challenge for the school record in the two-mile.
Sara Aguayo took the 300 hurdles by a landslide and has broken the 50-second mark for an impressive personal best this season. Carly Rogers won the pole vault with a nine-foot leap.
The Oakdale boys have three of the best throwers in the area in Marco Camacho, Eric Snow and Tyler Daley, and the three shined to land big wins against Manteca. Camacho was just under 50 feet in the shot last week, and has made a 50-8 toss this season in the event.
Daniel Linder won Thursday’s long jump with a 20-10 leap, and is gunning to improve his 21-6 personal best.
Junior varsity pole vaulters Brynden McAndrews (11 feet) and Brooke Wong (8-6) have stood out among the underclassmen competitors.
Oakdale will get a few athletes back to the starting roster in the coming days, and will take on a heavy field of competitors at the Stanislaus County Meet at MJC on Friday.
