We are delighted to share this news flash about Alanna Jones who is attending Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia. Alanna is majoring in Exercise Science and we have just received the news that she has been named to the Fall 2010 Dean’s List. Students on the Davis & Elkins Dean List must earn a 3.6 GPA on a 4.0 scale while taking a minimum of 12 semester hours. The college is related to the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the college is located in Elkins, two hours east of Charleston, three hours south of Pittsburgh and four hours west of Washington, D.C. Alanna is the daughter of Dennis and Synthia Jones. All Alanna’s Valley Home friends share in the happy news of her successful studies at college, and look forward to hearing more news of her activities!

Please join us in thanking our fabulous Kindergarten and first grade teachers for their thoughtful “100th” and 101st” day of school celebrations. The students in these grades really enjoy the educational and fun activities that Mrs. Rathbun and Miss Vuyovich provide for them to do! What great reviews we received you two, wonderful job ladies!

Just a reminder that Valley Home PTC will be hosting a “Let it Roll” Bunko Night on Friday, March 4th at 6:30 p.m. PTC members are still looking for card tables and chairs (if available) to borrow from local families in the Valley Home, Oakdale and Escalon communities. Along these lines, we are still in need of donations like were mentioned in last week’s column. If you have something to donate, please get in touch with us at 840-3178. We thank you for your generosity. Anyone that donates items worth $50 or more will receive a dinner ticket.

Are you interested in becoming a member of PTC? Would you be interested in running for an officer position? If your answer is yes, please contact Lisa Jones at 840-3178 or E-mail us at for more information and voting meeting information, thank you!

Valley Home friends and neighbors were saddened to receive word that long time Valley Home resident Lottie Rose Kochevar passed away on January 11th. Rose loved ranch life, especially riding horses, something she continued to do into her 80s. Rose was greatly loved by her family and in return, influenced them all with her homemaking skills, love of the country life, her whistling, her humor, her strong will, and her character, showing us that life is beautiful! Rose will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Our deepest sympathy to her family members in their loss.

Information has just been received regarding the Stanislaus County 4H Creed Contest, which took place at the County Ag Center. Halley Smith, Jessica Hatfield, Sam Fletcher and Heidi Schaefle took part and all received gold seals and did an excellent job reciting the creed and answering questions from a panel of three judges regarding the same!

Birthday celebrations are in order this week for Louise Griffen, Debbie Pilafas and Amanda Jones. Many Happy Returns of the Day to all!
