Junior Wrestling Classic A Major Success

POSTED December 22, 2010 8:06 a.m.
The first of what hopefully will be an annual event, the Oakdale Junior Classic, saw some of the brightest young wrestling stars in the Central Valley do battle on Sunday, Dec. 12, just one day after the 35th Annual James Riddle Classic for prep wrestlers.
In all, 37 Oakdale club wrestlers came away with medalist honors across four different age divisions.
“Everyone at the elementary to junior high and high school levels has come together, and the whole organization is really strong,” Oakdale club coach Steve Strange said. “Youth wrestling is where it’s at, and that’s why we started with elementary practices at different schools earlier this year.”
Eloa Chadwich nabbed first place honors at 145 pounds in the 13-15 age division, while Max Stevens, Wyatt Hjelm and Frank Trent finished second overall. Cody Williams, Trevor Williams, Jake Ryan, Cedric Vieira and Trevor Zervos nabbed third as well.
Colbey Harlan (80 pounds) and Ryan (112) each won weight classes in the 11-12 age division, and saw runner up honors from Dustin Chavez and Eric Alvarado. Justin Hoover and Justin Jacobson were both third while Gregory McMahon ended fourth.
Chavez (67) and Harlan (80) also won the 9-10 division, as did Ricky Torres (75) Gabriel Martinez (90) and Bronson Harmon (100). Ronnie Ochoa and Blake Brasil took second while Cody Golding was third. Max Moore and Justin Jericoff placed fourth.
The 7-8 division was paced by a Michael Torres championship at 46 pounds. Andrew Poses and Preston Vieira were both third while Ethan McCain and Matthew Burns finished fourth.
Christopher Fallgren and Jonathan Hernandez each took second at the 5-6 division, and saw third place honors from Maddox Link, Dalton Vargas and Lucas Cox. Trent Pacheco was fourth overall.
Oakdale competed at Central Catholic and Vacaville tournaments last weekend, but will be out of action until a barrage of tournaments from January to March.
