Valley Home residents are still basking in the glow of all the fun enjoyed at this year’s Harvest Festival. The results for the following contests held during the festival were not available in time for last week’s column and we include them now. Judges for the Scarecrow contest had the fun of driving through our Valley Home area and enjoying viewing the displays close at hand. There were four exhibits for judges to view this year. The judges felt that “Fall Clean Up” created by Wyatt, Emma & Marybeth Carpenter was outstanding. It showed a pumpkin-headed scarecrow type farmer dressed in overalls and straw hat raking up fall leaves to place in a garbage bag. It was located on Lambuth Road. “Happy Holidays” created by the Thompson family was also outstanding. A family of five-pumpkin headed scarecrow type farmers with jeans and cowboy hats. Three had rifles and one pistol standing behind a fence and sign message stating “Trespassers will be shot. Survivors will be shot again!” The above two displays were entered in the Country Class.
The Brynhi family’s certainly fitted right into the Scariest Class with their exhibit entitled “Spooky Grave Yard.” A spooky graveyard completely covered the front yard of the home and featured lots of ghost, witches, and grave markers featuring humorous epitaphs and names. A body could be seen reclining on a bench in one corner of the cemetery.
Hazel Rushman had a lot of fun with her entry in the Original & Scariest Class. The Rushman’s home sported an array of ghosts cavorting on the walls of the house amid scarecrows and spiders, pumpkin lanterns, etc.
Winners for the Pumpkin Contest were: Alexis Halsey for her entry of the “Strangest Shape,” Kylee Clinton for “Carved Pumpkin,” Sierra Griffin for her “Decorated Pumpkin” entry and Cody Bartholomew for his “Most Perfect” entry.
The winners of the costume contest also judged by Linda and Joe Perez were: 1st Place Dalsin Alves, 2nd Place Casey Calvin and 3rd Place went to Bryce MacKenzie.

Lisa Jones invites everyone to attend the Valley Home PTC meeting on this Thursday, November 4th at 3 p.m. at the Texas Ave. campus. As always babysitting is available so that parents may be free to attend the meeting. Information on the Harvest Festival will be available and information on upcoming events that you can take part in making a success as well, we plan to see you there!

Just a reminder that Valley Home 4-H is planning for a “Huge Community Yard Sale” to be held on November 13th from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Valley Home School. Proceeds from the event will be used to fund the group’s upcoming Disneyland trip. The club is offering booth space of 16’x16’ for those wishing to have a booth for the event, however you must bring your own tables. No electricity is available. Valley Home 4-H’ers cost of table space amounts to $20, with community members booth space priced at $30 per space. For additional information you may call Garrett or Kathy at 847-2962.
