Camporee Success

POSTED October 27, 2010 11:12 a.m.

Dear Editor,

On Friday and Saturday, Oct. 15 and 16, our Woodward Reservoir again hosted the annual regional LDS Mormon Boy Scout Camporee. Almost a thousand young men and leaders congregated there for an overnight camping experience and camaraderie.

That is a lot of clean, honest, hard-working young men. They engaged in 16 different competitive Scout events, including compass work, rope work, and the big competition of “stick pulling.” The night retiring of the brightly lit flag of The United States was especially impressive, all standing together as one, to pledge allegiance. It was a bit dusty (no handy potable water available) but the weather was great until a cold front blew in at about 2 a.m. The sunrise Saturday was a gorgeous painter’s dream.
