Gwendolyn White

Gwendolyn B. White, 100, died Monday, Oct. 4 at Merrill Gardens retirement home in Bellingham, Washington.

She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Hoffman and Elizabeth Bitner. She attended school in Salt Lake City and was a graduate of the University of Utah where she was affiliated with the Chi Omega sorority.

She was married to Douglass N. White in 1935.

Mrs. White and her husband moved to Oakdale in 1940. After her husband died, she stayed in Oakdale for 20 more years, until 1992, when she moved to Sandpoint, Idaho. In 1998 she moved to Bellingham, WA. She was very active in her new home and made many great friends.

She and her husband traveled extensively, visiting the Pacific Islands, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Russia.

She was involved in many local organizations and clubs including The Cowbells, Women’s Club, Cultus Club, bridge clubs, and was very active in politics.

She is survived by her daughter, Valery W. Anderson of Blaine, WA; sister, Ruth Fisher of West Palm Beach, FL; and granddaughter, Kristina Anderson of San Francisco.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972, Douglass N. White; and sister, June Taylor of Modesto.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
