Members of the Oakdale Community Garden Club (OCGC) recently expanded their volunteer efforts with the City of Oakdale.

On Sept. 16 the club began maintaining all five downtown medians; work that had previously been done by city workers. Club members are pulling weeds, planting flowers, and beautifying the medians.

It’s not the first time OCGC has worked with the city.

Since 2007, club members have planted flowers in, and maintained, 43 flower pots located throughout downtown Oakdale.

Club members donate an average of two hours per month planting and maintaining the medians and flowerpots. The city purchases plants and other materials for the club to use to keep downtown green. Other fundraising efforts by OCGC include the annual Oakdale Pond Tour and a booth at the weekly downtown farmers market in the summer.

New members are welcome. Those interested in joining the club or obtaining more information can attend one of the monthly club meetings at Café Bliss. OCGC meets on the third Thursday of each month at the café at 10 a.m.
