Maria Da Paraiso Vargas

Maria Da Paraiso Vargas, 81, died Wednesday, July 28 at her Riverbank home.

She was a native of Portugal until 1963, when she came to the United States with her husband and their children. She lived in Riverbank for 30 years.

She retired after 30 years of working at Escalon Packers.

She was a member of UPEC and St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church, Riverbank.

Mrs. Vargas was a loving wife, wonderful mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family.

She is survived by her children, Joe (Patti) Vargas and Mary (Ken) Sanborn, all of Oakdale, Carlos Vargas (Alice Zavala) of Riverbank; sister, Leontia Silveria of Pleasanton; brother, Carlos Pinheiro of Hayward; grandchildren, Teresa and Travis Sanborn, Jessica Gladney, and Amanda Tate.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband in 2008, Francisco Vargas; and several brothers.

A rosary was held Aug. 2 and mass was held Aug. 3 at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church, Riverbank. Burial was at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Escalon.
