Garvin Perry

Garvin Aubrey Perry, 86, of Washington died Saturday, July 10 at the Norman Regional Hospital.He was born in Paoli, OK, the eighth of 12 children born to Larkin Benjamin Perry and Sallie A. (Webster) Perry. He grew up on the family farm in Washington and attended Washington schools, graduating in 1944.Mr. Perry joined the United States Army later that year and served his country proudly. After World War II, he was stationed in Japan. He returned home, settling in Oklahoma City, OK.He found it difficult to find work, so he moved to California and began working in the feed mills. Times were tough and he was eventually laid off. He then joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and learned the trade of electrician. He was honorably discharged after dedicating nearly 21 years of service.In 1956, he married Grace Peraza and together they raised two children. He later married Lucy M. Plante and together they raised three children.Following his service, he returned to Oakdale where he began working for Hershey Chocolate. While living in Oakdale, he purchased a ranch to retire on and be close to his family, especially his grandchildren. He returned to Oklahoma in June 2002.He is survived by his stepchildren, Larry Gonzalez, Luis Yenny, Max Plante, Rick Plante, Treasa Guptill, and Yvette Plante, all of California; grandchildren, Tami and Shelley Gonzalez, Katie Morales and Brittany Plante, Joe and Josh Plante; sister-in-law, Rilla Perry of Washington; and many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, Larkin and Sallie Perry; brothers, Clovis, Lucas, Sam, Vester and Gordon Perry; sisters, Leona Feuerborn, Gertrude Warner, Ruth Bier, Faye Perry, Ruby Perry and Ada Perry; sister-in-law, Leota Perry; brother-in-laws, Ralph Feuerborn, Robert Bier and Roy Warner.Funeral services were held July 12 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell, OK.
