Alternative Education Buildings Removed

POSTED June 30, 2010 2:45 a.m.

An empty lot remains where two portable classrooms had stood together for many years at the Alternative Education location on the corner of Hinkley Avenue and G Street, just west of Oakdale High School. The two portables were approximately 25 years old and were recently removed to make way for three newer relocatables from Oakdale Junior High School, which are no longer needed due to the completion of permanent classroom buildings there.

The removed buildings served as part of Valley Oak High School and Oakdale Adult Education. Oakdale Joint Unified School District Assistant Superintendent for Business Tim Hern said that the district felt it was “prudent” to replace the two relocatable buildings. He noted that one of the buildings had an addition that had roof leaks and other issues.

Hern said that the newer relocatables will be in place at the Alternative Education site around the start of the school year, but it’s as yet unclear if they will be ready as new restrooms will be added into them and a new façade will be built.

Hern reported that three triple-wide portables and two other relocatables will remain at the junior high school. One will be used for book storage, another for general purposes. He said that a double-wide is used for a standard classroom.
