In celebration of National FFA Week, the Oakdale High School FFA chapter held its annual dinner and cake auction fundraiser on Feb. 24, bringing out supporters who were there to open their wallets for the sweet stuff.

The high-selling cake for the evening was a tractor cake made by Greg Borba, which sold for $220.

FFA members made cakes and entered them into one of four categories for the event to be judged and later auctioned off to the highest bidder. There were 49 cakes entered in the auction, with cash prizes of $15, $10, and $5 going to the top three entrants in the categories of Most Original, Agriculture, Sports, and Death by Chocolate.

The Most Original category winner went to Terrilynn Balaam and her marble cake with buttercream frosting. It was decorated with brands, rope, and a bandana – all in frosting, of course. The Agriculture theme winner was Jordan McCain with a white cake decorated like blue denim with a large silver belt buckle and a cowboy boot on top. The Sports theme winner was Mikayla Zwald. She made a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting that looked like a pool table, complete with cues and racked pool balls. Zwald also took home the win in the Death by Chocolate category with her chocolate cake with pudding filling, chocolate frosting with raspberries and a non-edible chocolate Labrador Retriever on top.

Travis Johnson served as auctioneer for the evening.

Later in the week, the FFA members were treated to a barbecue lunch at the school Ag department.
