Arne J. Knudsen

Arne J. Knudsen, 71, died Sunday, Feb. 21 at his Oakdale home with his family by his side.

He was born on a small farm in Denmark in July, 1938.

He immigrated to Danville, Calif. with his family when he was 9 years old. He graduated from San Ramon Valley High School, became a U.S. citizen and served his country in the Army Reserves.

Mr. Knudsen was a very successful local businessman. He and his brother Soren started a family nursery business, Knudsen Nursery Inc., in Valley Home in 1960. He was one of the founders of the Oak Valley Community Bank.

He was passionate about the 49ers, loved playing golf, skiing, playing tennis, and bridge. He was an excellent dancer, had many friends, and loved to travel.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Birgitta; son, Steven (Marina); daughter, Carina (Doug): brother, Soren (Sharon); and grandsons, Michael and Mathew.

A celebration of his life will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to Oak Valley Hospital Foundation, 350 South Oak Ave., Oakdale, CA 95361; or to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356.
