Floyd L. Magnus, 84, passed away on May 12, 2009.
He was born in Fresno on Sept. 23, 1924 to parents Ronna Louise and Floyd W. Magnus. After graduating from Turlock High School in 1942 he served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII (1943-1945) on the troop carriers APA Arthur Middleton and LST 23 in the South Pacific.
Floyd was known for his love of telling quick one line jokes and sharing his life stories of working as a Truck Shop Foreman for John Engals/United Foods, racing his own Sprint/Roadster in many NARC, ARA and CRA races in 1945-64, to his days of being part of the pit crew at Indianapolis Speedway for the 1964 “Indy 500” for the Travelon Trailer Special race car and rider/mechanic on board for the “Pacific One Design” speed race boat.
Survivors include his long time companion, Sandy Wild and her family; his sons Randy and Darrell; his daughter Marlaine Cox and his two grandchildren Matt and Shanna Cox; his many friends at Stockton Sailing Club, Stockton’s Jackass Junction Auto Shop and Escalon Donut Shop’s 80+ group.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Magnus (Anderson) of Modesto.
Family and friends are invited to remember Floyd, his quick one line jokes and stories on Sunday, June 14 at 4 p.m. at the Stockton Sailing Club Terrace (at the West end of March Lane), Buckley Cove in Stockton.
