News from school...September is a busy month for Valley Home School. Excitement is in the air as students prepare for volleyball and football season. It’s a sure sign fall is just around the corner when you see these student athletes practicing and sharpening their skills! This year Valley Home School Parent Teacher Club is purchasing all new uniforms for our athletes. What a great way to show how proud we are of our students! We would like to invite our community to come to the games and support your Valley Home kids. Their games will be held of Friday, Sept. 19 at Paradise School, Oct. 10 at Shiloh School, Oct. 17 vs. Roberts Ferry at Valley Home, and Oct. 24 vs Knights Ferry at Valley Home. Fifth and sixth graders "B" team play from 11:30 to 12:30, while the seventh and eighth grade "A" team plays from 12:35 to 1:35 p.m. (approximate). At home games there will be a snack bar with proceeds going to support the eighth grade Sacramento State Capitol trip. Go Valley Home Hawks!

All students will have their hearing test today, Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. Parent/Teacher club will meet at the park at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4th. All are welcome! Teachers will have a staff meeting at 3 p.m. today. Student progress reports will go home on Sept. 17. The school board will meet at 6 p.m. in the portable classroom on Tuesday, Sept. 9. School Site Council will meet on Sept. 22. On Monday, Sept. 29 our students will leave for sixth grade Outdoor Ed trip to Foothill Horizons Camp. They will return on Friday in the afternoon. Have fun campers!

A local Valley Home resident called to voice his concern after witnessing water going for seven days straight on a newly planted almond orchard. He lives at the south end of Valley Home and is very concerned since so many wells in the area are experiencing problems. We appreciate his concern.

Speaking of wells, St. John’s Lutheran Church had their yard sale this past weekend, to help with their well. It was a wonderful success. Look for more fundraisers soon! It is so important to support or hometown, and especially our community churches.

Fourth through eighth grade science teacher, Holly Benkula is looking for volunteers to teach 30 minute enrichment classes to four to eight top Hawk students on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 2 p.m. while other students get additional help or complete their homework with the teachers. Enrichment classes are simply brief ‘electives’ on subjects/activities which can enhance the learning environment and motivate the students to achieve. If you can help, or know someone who can help, please email Holly at

As always you may reach me by calling 985-5233 or by email at Until next time, “Happy Trails to All!”
