Thirty-two local sports legends – including an Oakdale icon – will be inducted into the 2014 Sac-Joaquin Section Hall of Fame later this month. Representing Oakdale High School is decorated basketball coach and athletic director Norm Antinetti.

Antinetti’s career has spanned over 54 years in which he served as a coach, director of student activities, and athletic director at Oakdale High School as well as Valley Oak League Commissioner.

He was the varsity basketball coach at Oakdale for 27 years and the athletic director for the Mustangs for 11 years. He has been Valley Oak League Commissioner since 2001, was presented with the Cal Rasmussen Award by the Sac-Joaquin Section Athletic Directors in 2005, received the Orron Qualls Award from the California State Athletic Directors Association the same year and was honored with the CIF Distinguished Service Award in 2010.

“This is the biggest honor for me. It was brought to my attention in April and now that the event is coming up, it doesn’t seem real. It’s a great class of people who have contributed to their schools and community. Truly an honor to be inducted in the class of 2014,” shared Antinetti.

This is the third ceremony since the inaugural 2010 class. The event will be held Sunday, Aug. 24 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento.

The overall class for 2014 numbers 32 new members for the Sac-Joaquin Section Hall of Fame and they range from Olympic medalists to All-Americans to national champions. They were successful from the 1930s to the present time. The list of 32 inductees includes 16 athletes, 10 coaches, along with media, administrators and benefactors.
