This week marks the final week of Oakdale’s Super Summer Camp program offered through the Oakdale Joint Unified School District. Camp is open to students in kindergarten through sixth grade and campers can attend any or all of the weeklong summer sessions.

The annually hosted day camp began the first week of June and will conclude this Friday, July 25. Each week had its own unique theme, field trip and special activities built around the theme for students to enjoy.

According to Armida Colon, Director of State and Federal Programs for the OJUSD, the Summer Camp hosted approximately the same number of students as last year, averaging 65 student-campers per week.

“The week where we had the highest enrollment was Week 1,” Colon stated.

The Wednesday field trip for that week was a trip to the Fresno Zoo. Colon indicated that it is typically the A’s Field Trip which prompts the highest attendance.

“This is definitely a star field trip,” she added of the zoo. “The children love to take the trip to the zoo.”

Colon also shared that most campers are returning from previous years and not all are OJUSD students. The camp includes six staffers, all of whom are managers and leaders of the OJUSD after school rec program that is offered to students during the traditional school year.
