New Transport Program Aids Area Veterans

A celebration of the new Stanislaus Veterans Medical Transport Program, a collaborative effort to serve Stanislaus area veterans, will be held on Wednesday, March 19, at the Stanislaus County Courthouse Lawn near 12th and I streets in Modesto at 5 p.m. Special guest speaker will be Representative Jeff Denham (R-10th District).

The efforts of several organizations and individuals who have worked together to address the needs of Stanislaus veterans who require specialized transportation services to get from their homes to Bay Area medical appointments will be recognized.

Included will be members/staff from the Stanislaus County Veterans Advisory Commission, the Department of Aging and Veterans Services, the Consolidated Transportation Services Agency (CTSA) of Stanislaus, the Veterans Administration Clinic, and Representative Jeff Denham.

On display will be two vans that were donated for the program by Paratransit, Inc. and the Welcome Home Heroes Foundation.

“We want to pay tribute to the individuals who saw a critical need in our community and did something about it,” said Carlos P. Yamzon, StanCOG Executive Director. “They made a difference; now, that’s something to celebrate.”

StanCOG, Stanislaus Council Of Governments, is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Stanislaus Region as designated by the Federal government, and the Regional Transportation Planning Agency (RTPA) as designated by the State of California. It is responsible for developing and updating a variety of transportation plans, and for allocating the federal and state funds to implement them. While regional transportation planning is its primary role, StanCOG is also involved in other issues that affect the entire region such as air quality.

Established in 1971, StanCOG provides the forum that brings mayors, city council members and county supervisors together to work on regional issues in a setting that promotes the involvement of the public in the planning process for the Stanislaus region.
