Anna Zakian Kohler, 82, died Tuesday, Nov. 5.

The youngest of three daughters, she was born in Milwaukee, Wisc. to Manoug and Nazlu Zakian who emigrated from Armenia. At a young age, her family moved to California and settled in the little towns of Yettem and Monson in the San Joaquin Valley where she worked on her family’s raisin grapes ranch into her late teens.

After graduating from Dinuba High School, she moved to San Diego where she raised her family and became a nurse’s aide. In 2004 she and her husband moved to Oakdale to be closer to family.

Mrs. Kohler had a spark about her that she carried well into her old age. She was spunky and fun to be around and a bit “cheeky.” Her home was a gathering place for family reunions, holiday dinners, and good old’ fashioned cards and board games, which she often won. She enjoyed gardening and browsing through local antique shops.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Bill Kohler; children, Patsy, Sandra, Carol, Sue, and Bob; and her grandchildren.

Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
