Valley Home News for December 9, 2009

POSTED December 8, 2009 1:31 p.m.

The Valley Home Community Christmas Parade will take place this coming Saturday, December 12th at 5:30 p.m. The viewing stand will be located in front of the “old” School. Bundle up to fend off the evening chill and enjoy a steaming cup of hot chocolate and tasty cookies while viewing the parade. It is a lighted parade and this year will feature Mrs. Elsie Martin as Grand Marshal. Santa will arrive as the last entry in the parade! We have received word that it is not too late to enter the parade. Call Winnie at 840-2692 to enter. Each entry must have an adult present the entire parade.

Everyone is encouraged to bring their favorite food dish to share at the Community Potluck dinner which will follow the Parade and be held at the Valley Home School Multi-purpose Room located on the Pioneer Ave campus. The Valley Home 4-H Club will provide turkey, ham, hot cider, coffee, plates and utensils.

The event provides a fun filled evening and good food to be enjoyed with our Valley Home friends and neighbors!

We have received word that the new 4-H shirts have arrived with a new logo. The shirts were presented by Supply Chairman, Luke Pouncey at the last club meeting. Luke has been doing a great job as supply chairman and now has shirts and sweatshirts available to purchase.

Ashley Bertao presented a very nice check to the San Joaquin county K-9 Pack at last week’s 4-H Club meeting. Ashlyn was able to present her contribution directly to Sheriff’s officers, who also had their K-9 officers present at the meeting.

We understand that Jenna Heaton and Rachel Thomason had a great time this past week participating in the Oakdale High School production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” Congratulations to both on a great job! Your friends and families were very proud of both of you!

What a beautiful and entertaining evening was shared by all who attended the Christmas Tree Gala on Friday evening, December 4th! Lisa Jones tells us that the trees were decorated to the hilt, and with beautifully decorated gifts placed under each tree going to the winner of each tree. There were also gorgeously wrapped silent auction items for all to bid on as well as the ultimate tree that was live auctioned, called the “Outdoor Adventure.” Lisa offers a special thank you to all the guests who came out to share the evening with us and to all of our members and volunteers that made the evening so special!

Parent’s Club president, Lisa Jones tells us that club members have talked with Santa and are organizing gift items so they can open the Annual “Santa Store” with his helpers on Tuesday, December 15th thru Thursday, December 17th in the Valley Home School Multi-purpose Room. A preview for all students will be available on Monday, December14th. Wish lists were sent home earlier this week, anyone needing an additional copy please pick it up on Monday after your class tours the store. Lisa and her committee members are looking forward to helping our students take a surprise gift home for their family and friends.

Please continue to bring your canned goods and non-perishables in through Wednesday, December 16th so we can make food baskets for some very deserving families this Christmas.

Helping to take some of the chill off the weather with candle laden birthday cakes this week are Bibliana Diaz, Elizabeth Hempleman and Linda Reeves. Happy Birthday to all three from all your Valley Home friends.
