Shooting Suspect Now In Custody

POSTED November 5, 2013 3:41 p.m.

Oakdale Police announced on Tuesday, Nov. 5 that the adult suspect wanted in connection with the Oct. 17 shooting at Oakdale Market was taken into custody during a vehicle stop at J Street and South First Avenue.

Oakdale Police Lieutenant Keri Redd stated that Stanislaus County Sherriff’s detectives conducted the car stop at 9:08 a.m. Tuesday morning, Nov 5 and found Eric Michael Sarber, 18, inside the vehicle.

Sarber had been identified as one of the involved participants wanted from the October mid-morning shooting that had surrounding streets closed for hours as police searched for suspects and gathered evidence from what appeared to be a shootout between rival gang factions.

Redd said sheriff’s detectives were assisting in the Oakdale investigation and hunt for Sarber due to him being from the Riverbank area.

“They were familiar with him and his associates,” said Redd about the sheriff’s department involvement.

In addition to the $1.5 million warrant for his arrest that Oakdale detectives obtained after he was identified through store surveillance tapes, Sarber also had a no bail juvenile arrest warrant.

Redd said that after Sarber was in custody, he did not make a statement regarding the shooting.

Sarber was booked at Stanislaus County Jail.

On Oct. 25, Oakdale Police arrested a 14-year-old juvenile male in connection with the shooting that left one victim with gunshot wounds.
