Knights Ferry News Week of October 9, 2013

POSTED October 9, 2013 11:43 a.m.

Congratulations go out to the Knights Ferry Students of the Month of September: Kindergarten, Tristan McCarthy, Second Grade, Maddy Watson and Carson Sundburg, Third Grade, Mason O’Neil and Xavier Olvera, Fifth Grade, Mizty Collantes, Sixth Grade, Destiny Machado, Seventh Grade, Rilyn Cassaretto and Eighth Grade, Julia Nilsson. The teachers of the combination classes had the choice of two students, not necessarily one from each grade.

The Seventh and Eighth Graders at KFS put on an assembly on the character traits perseverance and determination. They did three skits showing those traits.

The next movie night will be October 19th at 6:30 p.m. in the clubhouse. The movie “Hocus Pocus” will be shown. Costumes are optional and so are candy treats to give out. Bring pillows etc. and popcorn and water will be on sale. This is a good outing for the whole family!

At the Knights Ferry Community Club meeting the candidates running for the School Board were introduced; Bob Brunker, Kym Cassaretto, Diane Noon, Sean McCarthy and Shavon Haskell. They told a little about themselves and had a meet and greet session. On the club agenda was the upcoming Pumpkin Roll (50th year). For entry forms for the craft booths call Gail at (209) 543-2614. The Orange Blossom 4-H will have a petting zoo on the tennis court. There will be a breakfast at the I.O.O.F. Hall and food booths for lunch. The roll of the pumpkins starts at noon on the tennis court for the 5 and under set. All others will roll on the street starting at 1:00 p.m. for genuine simulated gold trophies. Also discussed was the donation of a flag for our cemetery by U.S. Representative Jeff Denham, the presentation will be at the Pumpkin Roll. Lisa Dolling told of the closing of the Army Corp Parks and Dave Voortman told of the Salmon Festival on October 26th if the parks are open by then.

The School Board meeting this week has been canceled.

Lee and Mary Sue Shearer got to see the latest addition to the family, month old Sterling Shearer. She and her brother Wyatt were at Aunt Patti Sandoval’s home being baby-sat!

There was a good turnout for Barktoberfest. Fred and Lisa Dolling worked hard on the event and Fred won the big prize! The animals really won with the funds raised!
