George Taliaferro

George Eugene Taliaferro, 78, died Sunday, Aug. 18 after suffering a long illness.

He was born in Oklahoma City, Okla.

After high school he joined and served four years in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. Part of his service was in Southern California, were he met and married his wife, Sylvia.

Mr. Taliaferro received an AA in Law Enforcement, and worked for the California Department of Corrections for 30 years.

He was a resident of Oakdale since the early 1970s. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Oakdale for many years.

Over the years he had several interests and hobbies. His latest hobby was being involved and performing in Western reenactments, which he truly enjoyed.

The family thanks Oak Valley Care Center and Focus Hospice for all their support and services.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sylvia; daughters, Virginia (Jeff) Phinney, Susan Taliaferro, all of Oakdale; sons, Mike Taliaferro of Manteca, Daniel Taliaferro, Jon Taliaferro, of Oakdale; mother, Grace Taliaferro of Lawton, Okla.; sisters, Dorothy Bollenbaugh of Michigan, Betty Snow of Lawton, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bard Taliaferro; and sister, Bonnie Minors.

Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 27 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in his name to Focus Hospice, 1503 E. March Lane, Suite A, Stockton, CA 95210-5622.
