Valley Home News Week of April 17, 2013

POSTED April 16, 2013 4:41 p.m.

We are delighted to share the exciting news that all three members of the Valley Home 4-H Public Speaking Project received gold medals at Regional Presentation Day held at Madera High School on April 20th.

This earns them the opportunity to complete at State Presentation Day on May 25 at UC Davis. The three participants are Sam Fletcher with his demonstration "Accuracy is the Best Shot"; Heidi Schaeffe with her prepared speech "Surfs Up"; and Hallie Smith with her prepared speech "Secretariat." All earned gold medals with their presentation and will be competing at the State level in May! We offer a big round of applause to the three on their great presentations, Valley Home is proud of you! We also offer a big thank you to Diane and Jerry Hougland for devoting so much time as project leaders again this year.

Nancy Osmundson reminds us to please make plans to attend our next meeting of the Valley Home Municipal Action Committee (MAC) on Wednesday, April 17th at 6:30 p.m. (tonight). The meeting will be held in the Valley Home School Library. We had a great turnout of people from the county at the last meeting and it is hoped that many of you will be there this month to hear their reports. MAC meetings are very informative about what is happening in our community. If you have ever wondered about drunk driving arrests, auto accidents, burglaries, fire stats, etc. this is the place to hear the answers and to ask questions of your own. Everyone is welcome.

This weekend is a big deal in the life of many Oakdale High School students. It’s Prom Weekend! Wow, what fun! We hope that all of you attending the event have a wonderful evening, and please be safe. We pass on this bit of advice that we received "By the way Santa Cruz really is too far to go!"

This past weekend found our Valley Home 4-H'ers working hard at their Rodeo Food Booth and they ended up having a lot of fun and earning a lot of cash for the club!

Beci Mullins sends word to all of her Valley Home friends and family that although it is really cold in South Dakota, she absolutely loves it and is enjoying her time there immensely!

Our community said goodbye to a long time resident and dear friend, Claire Taro with a beautiful service held at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon last Thursday, and a lovely reception followed that was held at the Reese Ranch. Claire will be deeply missed by all here in Valley Home.

Members of the Oak Valley Art Society invite you to attend their Spring Art Show being held at the Escalon Library this coming Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21st. Hours for the show are 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday. There will be a reception held from 2 p.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday. Peggy Kroll Roberts will be the Show Judge. Come and meet the artists and enjoy the show.

Just a reminder, when you visit the Library is currently holding a fundraiser. In addition to the ongoing used book sale: See's Select Chocolate Bars in three varieties are now for sale for $2.00 each in the library. Pick up a book to read at home while you enjoy your candy bar!
