George T. Morrison, Jr., 89, died Monday, March 18 in Missouri.

He was a longtime Oakdale resident.

He attended Oakdale High School and entered the U.S. Navy after graduation.

Mr. Morrison served for the Navy and was transferred to the Marines, completing a dual service. He was a medic and worked for a MASH unit during World War II.

While in service, he attended school at the University of Texas, Austin, majoring in pre-med. After leaving the service, he attended the University of California, San Francisco and UC Berkeley. He received his license as a pharmacist in California and Nevada.

He began his career working for Kerstens pharmacy. He eventually owned and operated four pharmacies – two in Oakdale, one in Riverbank, and one in Lake Tahoe. He was also one of the owners of the Professional Medical Center in Oakdale.

Mr. Morrison dedicated most of his life to the community. He was involved with many different organizations. At one time, he was a member of the Oakdale City Council. He was elected to the county Board of Education for seven consecutive terms, totaling 28 years.

He was the founding President of the Oakdale Hospital. He began the pharmacy at the hospital as well.

He was also a member of the Oakdale Dinner Club, Oakdale Golf and Country Club, and United Methodist Church, to name a few.

He is survived by his wife, Lorilee Morrison of Fair Grove, Mo.; and children, Kevin Morrison, Pamela Morrison, both of Oakdale.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 6 at United Methodist Church, Oakdale.

Remembrances may be made to Oak Valley Hospital.
