Graham James Sorensen, 77, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 14 after a brief illness, surrounded by his family at Doctor’s Hospital, Modesto.

He was born in Salinas, the son of Adolph and Ada Sorensen. He attended schools in Salinas and was a graduate of Cal Poly University, San Luis Obispo.

He served in the Army National Guard.

Mr. Sorensen worked many years for the Grange Company as a cattle foreman. He later changed careers and became a State Farm Insurance agent for a 37-year career.

He moved to Oakdale in 1994, after living in Merced for many years. He enjoyed the western life, and hunting and fishing. He was an avid traveler, and made friends wherever he went. He was a big man, with a big heart and a great sense of humor.

He was active in the Merced Kiwanis Club, and was a 34-year member of Dania and Rebild, Danish societies. He served as Grand President of California-Nevada Dania in 1993-1994. He also enjoyed membership in the Oakdale Men’s Dinner Club.

He lived well, was greatly loved, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dianne; daughters, Kristi (Dayon) Santos, Lori (Skip) Norman, and Maureen (Dennis) Brammer; sister, Maren Turner of Milburn, Okla.; brother, Neil Sorensen of Atascadero; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Brian Sorensen; daughter, Wendy.

Private burial services will be held Thursday, Feb. 21. A public church service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 22 at Saron Lutheran Church, 1742 North St., Escalon. A celebration of life reception will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
